Is This a Quiz?...

January 26, 2016

There are lessons in life every single day. Sometimes I’m moving right along, thinking I’ve mastered one thing or another and, boom, there’s a pop quiz. It’s as if the Universe is saying, “Okay. You think you’ve got this? Show me!”

Do these little (or big) challenges take you by surprise, too?

Over the holidays, a young friend and I were having a casual conversation. I could see that she had something she wanted to tell me, but she was holding back. I could almost see the conflict bouncing around inside her head. She even walked out of the room we were in, as if to keep herself from talking. But when she came back in she spilled the beans. She began reading angry words from a text conversation with another young woman.

The angry words were about me. I was dumbfounded. Shocked, really. I have only been with my attacker a handful of times. I couldn’t think of a unkind word that had been spoken or any conflicts that had arisen. I was feeling confused and kind of angry as I listened to the venomous verbiage assaulting my character.

My gut reaction was to defend myself, to feel wronged and wounded. Oh that darned ego! Yes, she wanted to rally my troops; bring them to my defense. What have I done? Why is she so mean? She doesn’t even know me.

Something in my higher self, my bigger self caught me. Stop, Kel. Think. This is a test. What have you learned? Certainly, by now, you’ve found a better….mmmm…..maybe a “different” way to respond. Did you check in with Wisdom and Grace?

Okay, I have to pause. This really just happened…..The alarm on my telephone, reminding me to stop what I’m doing and feel grateful for something, just sounded. As I looked down to turn off the tune I was greeted with an open email (from today@nealedonaldwalsch.com )that read,

On this day of your life, Kellie, I believe God wants you to know…

…that you have two voices with which you speak: your MindVoice and your SoulVoice.

These two voices are also-all the time-speaking to you. Which voice you listen to will determine which voice you speak with.

God invites you to listen to, and speak with, your SoulVoice. This will vastly improve your personal communications-to say nothing of your mood.”

Really. Honest. That was the message!

My SoulVoice, in fact, had spoken to me. She whispered, somewhat loudly, that a person who would speak such hateful words must surely be in pain. Even if I haven’t knowingly hurt her, there is pain. Send it love. Send her love. Although it’s none of my business what someone else thinks of me, her words have reached my ears and she needs love.

“Your brain is very much like a bank. Every day you make thought deposits in your “mind bank.” These thought deposits grow and become your memory. When you settle down to think or when you face a problem, in effect you say to your memory bank, “What do I already know about this?”
~David J. Schwartz, PH.D. The Magic of Thinking Big

I have a recurring nightmare. I’m in a classroom that I’ve never been in before. It’s final exam day. I’m panicked because I don’t know any of the answers.

Today is different. I am grateful for the rich deposits in my mind bank. I do know the answers. I think I passed the test!

I HOPE you hear your SoulVoice when you’re given your next pop quiz! I know you’re going to ace it!

Love,
Kellie
