It’s still winter here in Virginia. The glistening snow outside my window and the weather update on my phone, telling me it is 4 degrees Fahrenheit, are stark reminders. My husband has to work outside in this so I’m sending him “warm” thoughts while I sit by the fire and write! There are many reminders that this, too, shall pass. The morning light is shining in my window earlier and it’s still light outside when I lock my office doors in the evening.
On my morning walks I am mesmerized and forever impressed with everything in nature. Everything seems to grow with such ease. One morning in the very near future I know I’ll see buds on the trees and green sprouting from the plants in the now frozen ground. In a seemingly short period of time they will all be in full bloom.
This leads me to wonder. Aren’t we, too, supposed to blossom and grow with ease?
“Man is the only animal for whom his own existence is a problem which he has to solve.”
We actually have to make a decision, to either survive or thrive. Isn’t awesome that we have that choice?
My heart is singing with joy. Our son has decided to return to law school. He told us this weekend while he was visiting.( His visits always fill my heart with glee!) Until now that has been something he hoped to do, but hadn’t made a decision to do. There are so many reasons and alibis he could use to justify why he couldn’t go back. The cost alone keeps many people from making the choice. He’s a young man with one year of law school under his belt and the debt to prove it. He took two years off~a little like the plants lying dormant in the winter~ but his passion, his goal, has been growing inside, and unlike the plants he had to make a conscious decision to grow. He’s been thinking! He doesn’t know where he’ll go. He doesn’t know how he’ll pay for it. But he’s taking action. Wow. Wow. Wow. I am so thrilled for him.
He’ll have to make sacrifices. Gosh that word, sacrifice, sounds painful. Actually, it isn’t. It’s simply clearing a space in your life to open up a place for something better; “something you give up for the sake of a better cause” according to www.vocabulary.com.
“Raise your sights and broaden your steps…because doing one without the other is the same as doing neither.” The Universe (my calendar page yesterday!)
Again, I look around me at Mother Nature and notice how the plants grow up,… toward the light. Hmmm.
Today is your new tomorrow. Are you making decisions, or not making decisions, because of the things that frighten you?

I recently read about a study conducted by Dr. Gerald Bell. He co-authored the New York Times bestseller The Carolina Way, In his study, Dr. Bell asked a group of seventy-year-old executives what they would do differently if they could live their lives over. The resounding, number one answer, was “I should have taken charge of my life and set my goals earlier. Life isn’t practice, it’s the real thing.”
I hear over and over that people at the end of their lives regret the things they didn’t have the courage to do, not the mistakes they made.
Are you content to simply survive or have you chosen to thrive? Are you being guided by fear or joy? Are you following your passion? Will you spend this day dreaming about how you’d like to grow this year? You CAN do it!
Now that I think about it, Ryan’s decision to go to law school the first time was the impetus for me to grow and enrich my own life. Funny, huh? My mind told me I couldn’t afford it, but my soul told me I couldn’t afford not to even louder!
I can’t wait to hear what you’ve made up your mind to do, the decisions you’ve made! I would love to hear from you about the ways you are growing! Send me a message.
I just KNOW your deep freeze is about to end! Isn’t this your day to blossom?
Make a sacrifice. Push out that nuisance “I can’t”. Create a little room for HOPE;
Happy Optimistic Possibilities Everyday!
You deserve it.
P.S. A word of caution….your “tribe” might not encourage you to follow your dreams. It scares them. Do it anyway! Tell them later!
