Because It Feels Good

When someone is hurt, sick, frightened or grieving do you wonder what you could do to help them? Are you afraid you won’t say the right thing? Pssst….all you have to do is show up.

Yesterday I went to the hospital to visit someone I love. She has a body that is failing her, but she isn’t ready to say good-bye to this life, yet. She was on my mind when I sat down with my coffee, before the sun came up, to read. I have a beautiful book, given to me by a great friend and mentor. The page I turned to caught my eye with the bold heading, “The Key to Healing Is to….”. As I read on the author cited a study proving “that we use light stored inside the cells of the body to help us cope”. She went on to explain how we get more light in our physical body. I got up, went for a long walk under the stars, counting my own blessings and sending heartfelt, loving thoughts and energy to my ailing friend.~ That’s my definition of”prayer”; heartfelt loving thoughts and energy.

I’ve rephrased that Og Mandino quote, “She who holds a lantern to light the pathway of her sister sees more clearly her own”.????

My path was clear. I dressed in something cheerful, put on my lipstick and went to shine my little light on my friend. She was sleeping when I arrived, but a great big smile came across her face when she opened her eyes and saw me sitting there. I read to her for a little bit; uplifting, joy filled words from the book that had started my day so positively.

I’m not a doctor or a nurse. I have the utmost admiration for them and the care they provide. I can’t prescribe anything, but I can share H.O.P.E. (happy, optimistic possibilities…everyday) because it feels good and I know someone needs it today.
